CLASS 10
Tuesday 28/4

HELLO EVERYONE. HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND? RAINY AND GREY, BUT THE RAIN  WAS NECESSARY AND IT´S ALWAYS NICE TO BE AT HOME ON RAINY, GREY DAYS, RIGHT?

WELL, THOSE OF YOU WHO SENT AUDIOS AND THE WRITING EXERCISE DID QUITE A NICE JOB. THE BIGGEST  ERRORS  I FIND IN ALL ARE WORD FORMS. THIS IS WHY I INSIST THAT YOU KEEP A PAGE IN YOUR NOTEBOOKS LIKE THIS:

VERB                   NOUN                                      ADJECTIVE             ADVERB
TO RISK              RISK/RISKINESS                    RISKY                        RISKILY
-----                      COURAGE                                COURAGEOUS        COURAGEOUSLY
                             LUCK                                        LUCKY                      LUCKILY
                             STRENGTH                              STRONG                   STRONGLY
                             CALMNESS/CALM                 CALM                        CALMLY
ETC...

THIS WILL HELP YOU TO USE WORDS CORRECTLY IN SENTENCES AND NOT SAY, FOR EXAMPLE, "THEY HAVE A VERY RISK JOB, "  WHEN IT SHOULD BE, "THEY HAVE A VERY RISKY JOB."

THE SECOND BIGGEST ERROR IS SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT. LOTS OF MISTAKES LIKE, "TEACHERS HAS......"  OR , "THERE IS MANY JOBS THAT....." :-(

AND THIRDLY, THE WRONG USE OF ARTICLES. BE CAREFUL WITH "I THINK THE DOCTORS WORK.....  " WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT ALL DOCTORS, TEACHERS, FIREFIGHTERS, ETC. IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A SPECIFIC GROUP, YOU WOULD USE ´THE´.  "THE DOCTORS IN ARGENTINA ARE NOW REWARDED AS THEY SHOULD BE."

PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR OWN AUDIOS!! LISTEN AND LISTEN AGAIN. FIND YOUR OWN ERRORS. THIS IS A VERY GOOD EXERCISE FOR YOU!
___________________________________________________________________________

PLEASE GO TO PAGE 28. WE ARE CONTINUING WITH THE VERY RELEVANT TOPIC OF  HEROES, STILL. PLEASE  THINK ABOUT THE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS IN A, READ THE PARAGRAPHS, FIRST QUICKLY FOR GIST, AND AGAIN MORE SLOWLY. DECIDE WHICH HEADING ABOVE IS MOST SUITABLE FOR  AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH OF THE WHOLE TEXT.

(YOU SHOULD HAVE ANSWERED, B, BECAUSE IT THE HEROES ARE ALL COMMON PEOPLE WHO PERFORM  THE HEROIC ACTS.

DO EXERCISE C AND D ON PAGE 29. USE YOUR DICTIONARIES, IF NECESSARY.

PLEASE, GO ON TO VOCABUARY. CHANGE THE NOUNS INTO ADJECTIVES. (I PUT SOME OF THEM ABOVE IN THE LIST.) THIS IS DICTIONARY WORK. TAKE THE TIME TO USE YOUR DICTIONARIES OR PHONES FOR THIS.

AND DO EXERCISE B.

SIMILES, EXERCISE 2. A SIMILE IS A PHRASE THAT USES LIKE OR AS TO  MAKE COMPARISONS. THEY´RE EASY AND FUN.

EXAMPLES:  AS IN EXERCISE, 2B:

AS LIGHT AS A FEATHER
AS QUIET AS A MOUSE
AS GOOD AS GOLD
AS FREE AS A BIRD
AS WHITE AS A SHEET
AS HUNGRY AS A WOLF
AS QUICK AS LIGHTNING
AS BUSY AS A BEE.

DO EXERCISE 1B.

EXERCISE 3 IS VOCABULARY RELATED TO NATURAL DISASTERS. EASY! (EASY AS PIE! THAT´S ANOTHER SIMILE!)

WORKBOOK: PAGES, 16 C, (WRITING) AND 2b, EX, A (VOCABULARY)  PAGES 16 AND 17. (NOT GRAMMAR YET)

Please watch this video. It will explain the difference between a defining and non-defining relative clause. It isn´t difficult.
Watch this several times, if necessary. Take your time!:
Now, look at the GRAMMAR box. I have given you the answers to A, B, and C.

Relative clauses
A. Use who or that to refer to people.

B. Look at the extracts.........

  • In which of the two sentences does the relative clause give       additional information?                                                Answer:In the second. (Diogenes, who lived in a tub, was only a poor philosopher.) O sea, esta informacion está demas.       Agrega mas informacion, nomas.
  • What is the difference in punctuation in the two sentences?     Answer: In the second sentence, the non-defining clause is    enclosed by commas.

The second sentence above (Diogenes, who lived...) is a non-defining relative clause.

Now, please do PRACTICE, on page 25. I´ll help you with a few.
1. Coffee is a drink which many people like to drink in the morning. (defining relative clause. The information is necessary.)
2. Elizabeth Brown, who writes children´s books, is giving a talk at our college. (non-defining relative clause. The information between the commas is extra information and is not necessary)

Inglés Nivel 6 T y S Villa Mercedes

CLASS 1 17/3

STUDENTS OF ENGLISH CLASS    LEVEL 6

HELLO AND WELCOME!

Due to the present circumstances  which we are all familiar with, we are offering you this method of keeping up-to-date with your work. I shall be writing  to you from time to time to catch you up on what you need to  be doing.

First of all, this blog  page is directed to both level 6 classes, "siesta" and  "tarde" courses. So, I know that in your books, Step To, you are both in different places in it..  Some of us have finished and the others need to do 2 or  3 more units to finish. So,
No 1,  please finish the last units to finish the book if you haven´t already. The exercises are very easy.  Don´t worry about the audios for now. For those of you who are new, it is not necessary because we will be getting the new Step To book soon.

No. 2: In class last week, we completed pages 5, 6 and 7. Those of you who did not come to class need to do these pages. Please go carefully over everything, especially GRAMMAR-- PRESENT SIMPLE AND PRESENT CONTINUOUS. Do all of the exercises in the box and refer to  Grammar Reference p. 139, yes or yes!! As I was telling the students, present tense is one of the most complicated tenses to really learn:

Ex. She works on Sundays.
       She doesn´t work on Sundays.
       Does she  work on Sundays?

Hahahaha! You guys know what I´m talkin´about!! What do I aways hear?
 "She work on Sundays".
 "She not work.....",
"She work on Sundays"?  ¡ OJO!

Ok. And you must also complete PRACTICE, page 7.

No. 3: Go on to page 8. Read the dialogue and pay attention to the misunderstandings between the 2 girls due to their English and American accents and their ways of referring to things. If I can, I´ll try to  find a way to get the audios to you. Do all exercises on page 8 and 9. Go on to GRAMMAR -- QUESTION WORDS. Do part A., 1-4.  IGNORE PART B. It is badly written. Do: INDIRECT QUESTIONS and  do Grammar Refernce p. 139   Do PRACTICE
Remember the old photocopies I gave you once? Making Questions. Please look for it in your notebooks. It is good practice for subject and object questions. Also, look for your photocopies on indirect questions.

No. 4. Look at the Speaking exercise on page 10 and be ready to do this with a partner when we are back in  class. Study that vocabulary, please.

No. 5. In workbooks, pages 2,3,4 and 5. (except  listening, of course.)

OK! ENOUGH FOR TODAY!
WE´LL BE IN TOUCH AGAIN, SOON.
STAY HEALTHY!

Ingles 3 Grupo 1 - Villa Mercedes

April 30th. 2020 Hello people!!! It's almost Friday!!! YEAAAAAAAH Today we are going to finish unid 5 and we will do a revision ...
