Hello students , here is the lesson of today.

We´re going to work with page 63 of the student´s book. And this time we´re going to practise the uses of INFINITIVE VERBS with or without TO.
                                              LET´S  START!

First of all let´s remember what is an INFINITIVE?

  •   THE INFINITIVE  OF A VERB IS THE VERB IN ITS BASIC FORM.
  •   IT IS USUALLY PRECEDED BY TO: E.G: TO RUN , TO WORK , TO EAT  , ETC.
  •    BUT SOMETIMES THE INFINITIVE IS  USED WITHOUT TO: E.G
  •                   " I MUST STUDY , I CAN SPEAK ENGLISH, ETC"

LOOK AT THIS VIDEO AND CHECK.

NOW LET´S HAVE A LOOK AT THE BOOK: ON PAGE 63 , COMPLETE THE BLANKS WITH THE EXAMPLES.

HERE IT IS MENTIONED THAT THE INFINITIVE WITH "TO" IS CALLED "FULL ININITIVE"
AND THE INFINITIVE "WITHOUT TO" IS CALLED "BARE INIFINITIVE". OK?
NOW TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND THE USES , LOOK AT THIS VIDEO.

AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEOS AND READING THE BOOK, YOU CAN READ AND COMPLETE THESE SENTENCES:
1)WE USE THE FULL INFINITIVE (TO+THE BASE FORM OF THE VERB):
  • TO EXPRESS PURPOSE: E.G "I´M GOING TO THE SUPERMARKET TO GET SOME FRUIT.
  • AFTER CERTAIN VERBS: WANT, WOULD LIKE,WOULD LOVE, HOPE,DECIDE,
MANAGE, _____________,____________,_________ ETC. EG: "I´VE DECIDED TO                   MOVE HOUSE"
  • AFTER CERTAIN ADJECTIVES: AFRAID, SURPRISED,FREE, HAPPY, READY,SORRY, PLEASED, ETC.EG. "ARE YOU AFRAID TO ASK HIM?"
  • AFTER TOO & ENOUGH: EG. "YOU´RE TOO YOUNG TO STAY UP LATE"

" I´M STRONG ENOUGH TO CARRY THE BOX"
2) WE USE THE "BARE INIFINITIVE":(BASE FORM OF THE VERB WITHOUT TO)
  • AFTER MODAL VERBS : CAN , COULD, WILL, WOULD,SHALL, WOULD,SHOULD, MAY, MIGHT, MUST) EG: "YOU MUST VISIT THE DOCTOR TODAY".
  • AFTER THE VERBS: LET AND MAKE: (in the active voice). EG: "SHE MAKES ME STUDY ALL THE TIME"
