"If you wake up early, you will be able to swim with the sharks before breakfast!"

If you see, the sentences starts with the word IF. This connector is indicating a condition for another action to happen. So:

If you wake up (condition) - you will be able to swim... (result) This is a

When do we use them?     To talk about possibilities in the present or future.

Which is the structure?   If ⍆ verb in the Present Simple form  ⍆ Simple Future (Will / Won´t & bare infinitive)

INGLÉS Nivel 5 (gr 3) - Villa Mercedes

Class nº 6:  02/04

Hi everyone!  First I want to congratulate you for the good job you did last class.                                                Today we will start Unit 5d.Let´s go to page 69 ex. 5.  Can you read the newspaper headlines?

💬  Have you ever heard or been in any of these serious situation?

Speaking ⇒ Tell me about the story (remember to send me a voice message).

Now, let´s analyse this headline:  "Many injured in a bus accident"

I have underlined the word "injured". Do you know the meaning? What´s the difference with the verb "damage" in the headline "Storm destroys 20 houses?

To understand the difference, you will go to exercise 2.

Activity 2:  Study carefully the difference between these easily confused words by analysing the examples given.  The terms you will study are:

💢  damaged vs. injured
💢  survive vs. rescue
💢  look vs. watch vs. notice

Once the difference is clear to you, you will write 6 sentences using a different term in each of them.

Activity 3: READING  ⇒  Let´s read now about a serious accident.

On page 68 of the student´s book, there is a newspaper article. Take your time to read it in silence and then complete exercise C (read the sentences and write T, F or NM for not mentioned).

I will take a sentence from the article:  " The inured passangers were taken  to local hospitals"

💬What do you notice in the verb? Is the verb in any of the tenses you know? Is it past continous? No!

This sentence is in the PASSIVE VOICE. What does it mean?  We normally read sentences that are in the           ACTIVE VOICE
⇲   "Somebody took the injured passangers to local hospitals"  (this would be the sentence I took from the text but in the active voice, which is the voice normally chosen by speakers or writers to communicate)

💬 Now, why is the passive voice chosen in the newspaper article?  The answer is because we don´t know who performed the act of taking the passangers to local hospitals. It´s more important the fact that THE PASSANGERS were taken than WHO took them.

Let´s analyse the uses of  "PASSIVE VOICE

Now that you understood when it´s better to use the Passive Voice, we will see how we construct sentences in "Present Simple" and "Simple Past" from the Active to the Passive voice 👉

ACTIVE VOICE  ↬  1.   We                     took         the passengers     to hospital
                                                            2.  The postman    delivers          letters               everyday
                                                                        ⇩                      ⇩                      ⇩

                                                                    Subject     ⍆    Verb        ⍆     Object

PASSIVE VOICE↬  1.The passangers      were taken     to hospital   by us
                                                           2. Letters                    are delivered                     by the postman everyday
                                                                      ⇩                             ⇩                                  ⇩
Subject       ⍆  Verb  To Be  ⍆   Past participle of the main verb ⍆  by

Activity 4GRAMMAR ⇒ To practice this grammar topic you will complete page 49 of the Workbook.

Activity 5WRITING ⇒  You have read and talked about serious stories. Now, go to the student´s book, page 71. Have you ever done anything embarrassing? Read the story written in ex. 4. This time, you will think about an embarrassing experience you have had and write it. Follow the writing tips given

                                                                                       ⇓
