Inglés Nivel 1 (gr1) - Villa Mercedes

Class nº 13: 27/04

Hi students!  Hope you all had a nice weekend.
Today we will go back to page 26 of the students´ book. Remember the conversation you read?

💬   Let´s go to conversation 3 and focus on the beginning of the dialogue.

PaulaHave you got any brothers or sisters?
Olivia:  Yes, I´ve got two brothers and two sisters.

Olivia is talking about her family, something she posses. And to express the idea of possession, she uses a verb that is not the verb "To Be", it´s the verb ↠             HAVE GOT

💬 When do we use the verb " HAVE GOT"?

➤ To express Possession. Ex:   I HAVE GOT a house.
➤ To describe people, animals and objects.  Ex:  I HAVE GOT  brown hair.

Now that you know when to use it, let´s see how to construct positive, negative and interrogative sentences.
As you can see the form of the verb depends on the subject of the sentence, so for:

                       I
YOU         ( ⍆) HAVE GOT               (-)  HAVE NOT GOT                 (?) HAVE ....GOT?
                      WE
                      THEY      Contraction: ´VE GOT      -       HAVEN´T GOT

                      SHE
HE            ( ⍆) HAS GOT               (-)  HAS NOT GOT                 (?) HAS ....GOT?
                      IT
                                       Contraction: ´S GOT        -     HASN´T GOT

Let´s do some written practice!

Activity 1Pages 19 and 20 of the WB, ex. B & C.

Activity 2WRITING ⇒ Write 6 sentences about 6 members of your family, following the example below and using the verb "Have got".

Inglés Nivel 1 (Gr1) - Villa Mercedes

 Class nº 12: 22/04

Hello students!  Today we will start with a revision of two grammar topics we learnt last class.

First, remember that we studied how to form
PLURAL NOUNS

These are the rules we apply for the formation of plural nouns.
Go through them carefully once more so that we can do some practice then.

Remember that there are "Irregular nouns", nouns that change some of their letters or simply stay the same.
These are some of the irregular nouns we are going study

Activity 1:  Now that you know well the rules, let´s do some written practice. Look at the singular nouns and then write their plural form.
Now, I said that we are going to revise two grammar topics of Unit 2. It´s time for the topic ↠
POSSESSIVE CASE

I analysed the example from the conversation we read:
                                                              Brad:  Whose is it?
Andy: It is my flatmate´s backpack

We call this type of phrase in bold (en negrita)  "Possessive case" and we use it to indicate POSSESSION.
Remember that the structure is:

POSSESSOR (flatmate)  ⍆  ´S ⍆  POSSESSION (backpack)

es lo mismo que decir:                         It is the backpack of my flatmate

the  POSSESSION (backpack)  of  POSSESSOR (flatmate)

💣Remember the spelling rules! (cómo colocar ´S según la terminación del sustantivo que antecede, es decir, el POSEEDOR)

1- Singular nouns or proper nouns (nombres propios) take ´S ➤  The boy´s book
but if the proper noun finishes in S, we can add just ´ (apostrophe) ➤  Doris ´ hat

2- Plural nouns ending in S, take ´ (apostrophe) ➤ The girls´ house

3- When the same object belongs to two or more people we add ´S only to the last noun.Paul and Sue´s car
Activity 2:  Let´s do some practice of Possessive case. Rewrite the sentences using the Possessive case.

I will do the first sentence for you as example:

1- Hansel is Gretel´s brother

Go on following the example give.

We are going to do an activity now in which you are going to practice these two grammar topics we have revised.
Activity 3:  Go to page 18 of the workbook, exercise B. Write the sentences in the plural, take all the words you can to the plural form. Ex:  This ↠ These /  is  are / phone   phones

After having done this revision, we will go back to Unit 2c.
Last class, we studied vocabulary about the members of the family, right? Well, now we are going to listen to three conversations between people who talk about their families.

Activity 4LISTENING ⇒ Listen to the three conversations and then complete exercise 3 B on page 27.

Class nº 11: 20/04

Hi students!  Hope you had a nice weekend. Today we are going to finish Unit 2b.

💬Do you remember the conversation we read on page 24?

I will take a sentence from the conversation.

Brad: Whose is it?
Andy: It is my flatmate´s backpack

Ok, let´s analyse it ↠
It is my flatmate´s backpack

In this sentence, we have the following structure which is called POSSESSIVE CASE

POSSESSORFlatmate ´S (indicates the relation of possession)  POSSESSIONBackpack

(es lo mismo que decir)       It is the backpack of my flatmate

Now, we are going to study the spelling rules (veamos como colocar ´S según la terminación del sustantivo que antecede, es decir, el POSEEDOR)

1- Singular nouns or proper nouns (nombres propios) take ´S ➤  The boy´s book
but if the proper noun finishes in S, we can add just ´ (apostrophe) ➤  Doris ´ hat

2- Plural nouns ending in S, take ´ (apostrophe) The girls´ house

3- When the same object belongs to two or more people we add ´S only to the last noun.Paul and Sue´s car

Activity 1Now, we are going to practise this topic following the example and don´t forget to keep the spelling rules in mind.

Now, let´s practice going from the sentence "It is the book of Tom" to the possessive case, "It´s Tom´s book"

Let´s go to page 26 of the student´s book.

Today we will learn vocabulary about "The Family". Look at the following family tree and study carefully the names of the members of the family according to their relationship.

(el punto de partida para entender las relaciones y los nombres de los miembros de la familia es "YOU")

Hello everyone!  Today we will continue working on page 24 of the SB.

Remember that I took the following part of the conversation?

Andy:  What are these?
Brad: They are dictionaries!

And I said that we use the Determiner THESE when we refer to
 Plural Nouns (sustantivos plurales).

Today we will start learning about the formation of Plural Nouns.

                                                                        PLURAL NOUNS

Below you will find the rules for the formation of Plural Nouns, i.e how we take a noun from the singular form to the plural form.  Study them carefully and please make all the questions you may have.

In English, there are some nouns that are irregular, it means that some of their letters change or the word stays the same. Let´s see which are some of these irregular nouns.

Activity 1PRONUNCIATION:  Let´s see how we pronounce the "S" at the end of plural nouns, depending on the final sound of each word. We will do activity 5 on page 25 of the SB.

When do you pronounce the "S"  as /s/ , as /z/ or as /iz/?

1- as /s/ ↠ examples:    books, shops, cats, myths, cliffs.
2- as /z/ ↠ examples: rooms, boys, pears, leaves, lemons, pianos, etc.
3- as /iz/ ↠ examples: buses, foxes, brushes, torches, bridges, etc.
