Ingles 5 Grupo 2 - Villa Mercedes

April, 3rd. 2020

💓Good afternoon!! How are you these days?🌈I hope you are all staying safe at home.😷

This week we are going to work with a new topic.

Passive voice

Usamos la voz pasiva cuando queremos que la frase se centre en el objeto más que en el sujeto, como es lo habitual. El sujeto es el elemento que realiza la acción, y el objeto, el que se ve afectado por dicha acción.
  • Active voice:
    The dog chasedthe cat.
La parte central de esta oración es el verbo, «chased». El sujeto, es decir, el que realiza la acción, es «the dog». Y finalmente el complemento directo que se ve afectado, es «the cat».
  • Passive voice:
The cat was chased by the dog.
«The cat» se ha convertido en el sujeto de la acción «be chased».
La estructura es así de simple: cambia la posición de cada elemento en la frase y se modifica el verbo.

How to form passive voice

  • Follow these steps:
  1. identifica el sujeto de la oración activa
  2. identifica el objeto
  3. identifica el verbo y el tiempo en el que está
  4. conjuga el verbo «to be» en ese mismo tiempo
Example:
The dog chased the cat.
  • sujeto: «the dog»
  • objeto: «the cat»
  • verbo: «chased» (past simple)
  • conjugación de «to be»  wa
Y ahora no tienes más que colocar cada pieza en su sitio:
Objeto + verbo «to be» conjugado + past participle (main verb) + by + sujeto
The cat + was + chased + by + the dog

 More examples:
1.
Somebody stole my laptop. <<This is the active voice>>

  • Identificamos primero el tiempo verbal: Past Simple (Se mantiene el mismo tiempo en la voz pasiva)
  • Sujeto: Somebody
  • Objeto: My laptop.
Ahora ponemos la oracion en orden, agregamos verb to be, y el verbo STOLE lo conjugamos en past participle.

My laptop was stolen by somebody. <<This is the passive voice>>
2.
Rita writes a letter. <<This is the active voice>>
  • Tense: Present Simple.
  • Subject: Rita
  • Object: a letter.
Ordenamos, conjugamos, agregamos to be, y verbo en participio.

A letter is written by Rita. <<This is the passive voice>>

3.
Leonardo DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa. <<This is the active voice>>
  • Tense: Past Simple
  • Subject: Leonardo DaVinci
  • Object: the Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo DaVinci. <<This is the passive voice>>

Don't forget the verb to be, and to change the verb into the past participle.
