How's it going? Hope the Covid-19 lockdown is not driving you too crazy! 🙈
So, before we all start levitating👆👆, why don't we get started with our next lesson?
EXERCISE 1: New Year's Resolutions
Look at this dictionary definition of "resolution":
"A promise to yourself (not) to do something."
Although we're already a few months into the year 2020, I wonder if you have made any resolutions.
But before you talk about this, here's a worksheet to get you thinking about your last holidays and thenthe year 2020.
Answer all the questions in Worksheet 1. Make sure you give enough detail to make your answers interesting!
Be ready to record your answers, so you can share them with your classmates and we can exchange opinions.
EXERCISE 2:
So, now it's time to think about our resolutions for the year 2020.
What are you going to do?
QUICK GRAMMAR REFERENCE:
To express your intentions, plans or resolutions, you can use the structure "be + (not) going to + infinitive":
This year I'm going to learn how to use more technology in my lessons.
For questions, put "be" before the subject:
Affirmative: You're going to improve your English speaking skills.
Question: Are you going to improve your English speaking skills?
Look at this worksheet, tick the plans that are true for you and add any extra ones you have. Finally, talk about things you can't do in English but you'd like to do.
Again, be ready to record your answers to share with your classmates!
EXERCISE 3: Group speaking activity!
In the following activity you will need to use Whatsapp to find a classmate that answers "yes" to the questions you need to ask. The idea is for you to try to call different people!
So first, think of the questions you need to ask in each case. Some questions are in the past, present, etc. It's OK if you make a few mistakes when asking your questions. We'll work on this in our lesson today on Whatsapp!
Example:
(You call one of your classmates and ask them the questions)
Did you stay at home on December 31?
If you classmate says "yes", write down their name under the "name" column.
If they say "no", then you need to call another classmate!
You need to do this, until you can complete your "name" column with your classmate's names.
Ok, that'll be all for today!
Hope you've enjoyed the activities and we'll be using Whatsapp so you can practise speaking a lot during the lockdown!
Bye! Take care!
