WELCOME TO OUR VIRTUAL CLASSES!
Warm up: Last two classes we revised topics from Unit 1 and 2. Today we will continue revising grammar topics from Unit 3. The first topic is "Modals Verbs". I have attached some material in which you have 2 activities. Please complete them and then send your answers to my e-mail address rominagrdin@ulp.edu.ar.
Exercise 1:
Activity 2: Now, another grammar topic that I consider important to revise is "Indirect Questions" as they are very useful when writing formal pieces of writing.
Let´s work with an example: Direct Question →Where did you go yesterday?
Indirect Question → I would like to know where you went yesterday.
What do you do? after the question word you write an affirmative sentence, i.e you eliminate the auxiliary in this case and conjugate the verb.
Exercise 1: Turn 10 of the following direct questions-in different tenses, into indirect.
Exercise 2: So as to put this topic in context, imagine that you are going on a trip to Brazil and you are staying in a hotel. Write an e-mail asking for information about prices, facilities, location, etc. in about 12 lines. Please use indirect questions in your requests.
Activity 3: Starting Unit 5A. Go to page 62. Read the dialogues and put them in the correct order. Then listen and check your answers. What do the people talk about?
Now, can you see the highlighted phrases? What are they? → they are called "Phrasal Verbs"
They consist of a verb (get) and an adverb or a preposition (over) and their meanings are different from the meaning of the verb they include; i.e they form a new verb.
Exercise 1: Look at the phrasal verbs (1-5) in exercise 2 on page 63 and match them with their meanings (a-e).
Exercise 2: Write 5 sentences using the new verbs in context.
